Always vs in-app data: what's the difference?

Accurat collects location data via mobile phones and requires an explicit consent and a operating system permission of the user to fully function. This is polled in multiple steps, yet different for OS and its versions (see iOS 15+ on the right). 

It is possible to retrieve different permissions:

  • In App permission (once or every time the user uses the app)
  • Background permission (in order to retrieve coordinates also when the app is not in use, yet still running in the background).

Our use cases require “Always on” background data in order to collect coordinates for users every single day in order to

  • Understand the average frequency for a brand or category
  • Measure the impact of a campaign
  • Define the home & work location of the user

We do not use in app collected data for our models.
